In this tutorial, you will learn about Data Entry Properties

View the tutorial video.

Fields, windows, and pages are used throughout NEONOVA to organize and display information and make it easy to enter data.
A field is a location on the screen that holds a specific piece of information. Fields come in different sizes, depending on the number of characters they are expected to hold. In NEONOVA, the field currently active or ready for data entry, is indicated by the highlight bar. The length of the field is indicated by the length of the highlight bar. You can enter data into the field by selecting from a window or by typing in the information. The generic Windows’ Field Editing commands can be used to edit the information in that field.

Windows are boxed areas superimposed on the screen that display menus, available selections, data, or help information.

The term “window” in this manual is a generic description for bordered boxes of screen information. Usage of “window” in this manner is not to be confused with the Microsoft Windows operating system.

The next section presents various small properties used in Neonova.
Field editing commands

When involved in an edit session, the following function keys may be used:

Home Go to beginning of field.

End Go to end of field.

Left Arrow Go left one character.

Right Arrow Go right one character.

Backspace Delete character preceding cursor.

Delete  Delete the single character under the cursor.

Enter     Confirm entry of the information, similar to OK button.

Escape  Exit without saving, similar to Cancel button. Will restore the original contents prior to any modification applied inside that specific edit session, even if several fields were modified.

Date format

Dates can be entered from the keyboard in YYYY-MM-DD format. Be sure to include the “-” between the year, month and day.  This format eases sort visibility.

Mandatory fields

When some fields are required, they are followed by the star sign “*”.

In the above example, Admission date is a required field while Origin and Discharged are optional.

Spin edit fields

Spin edit stands for arrows Image  that make ascending or descending choices in data entry available.  You still have the ability to type in the desired value without using the spin edit arrows.
