In this tutorial, you will learn about Introduction to References

View the tutorial video.

The Reference main form allows the maintenance of reference and simulation comparisons based on filters and parameters provided by the user.

The Reference Database maintains sets of recommendations for nutrient intakes for infants of different body weights. These Reference values can be displayed when comparing formulas or when analyzing nutrient intakes to determine if the amounts of nutrients given an infant match the recommended values.

In the Reference Database you can

•    Retrieve, view, and edit nutrient values for any Reference in the database
•    Add, edit, or delete your own sets of Reference values
•    Use NEONOVA Database functions (Index, Select) to identify distinct subsets of the database that match desired criteria
•    Generate listings of recommended nutrient intake values for selected References.

Several sets of values are included in the initial configuration of the Reference Database.
These sets of values are based on published recommendations. Page 1 of each Reference lists the Source of the values. Blank fields indicate that no recommendation has been established.

Key Point It is a matter of individual clinical judgment whether a recommendation is applicable to a particular infant. In many instances, the condition of an infant may temporarily prevent nutrient intake from matching a particular recommendation. Such discrepancies must be interpreted carefully before you decide to modify nutritional management. Clinical response of the infant is critical in adjusting nutritional regimens.

Adding References to the Database

You can make changes in the sets of Reference values supplied with the program, and you can add sets of values. These can then be used in evaluating a patient’s nutrient intake.

Nutrient intakes do not have to be compared against the supplied intake recommendations. Local recommendations or recommendations from other sources can be added to those supplied with the program.

Key Point The System Manager or User is responsible for the accuracy of added or modified Reference values and conclusions based on their use.

Reference Panel

The Reference main form is composed of two sections.  The superior section contains identification reference information.  The lower section defines all nutrients and boundaries limits associated to their composition.

The upper band lists all entered references.
