Neonova can be used to systematically assess all, or selected, patients in the NICU, on a routine or “as needed” basis.  Some dietitians depend on the program to carefully track the progress of all high risk infants – or just those infants who have complex medical problems precluding typical feeding.  The program can combine different feedings (human milk, or formula as ready to feed, concentrated liquids, and powders), modular components, and/or supplements to design an individualized solution for a sick infant’s unique needs.  Dietitians report that using Neonova allows more flexibility and creativity in meeting the needs of complex patients by performing complicated calculations that would be precluded by the time involved in hand calculations.

Neonova can be used to prospectively optimize a feeding regimen by quickly comparing alternate feeding scenarios.  These nutrition options can then be discussed with the neonatologist or nurse practitioner or presented on patient care rounds.  Since the software supports simple and complex parenteral solutions, it is invaluable in managing the transition from parenteral to enteral feeding.
